May was Mental Health Awareness Month. In recognition of that observance, APMA wishes to extend our thoughts and support to the podiatric community, especially those who may be struggling.
The stressors physicians encounter in their personal and professional lives are likely to be many and varied. APMA and its Podiatric Population Health Committee have compiled resources to support the podiatric community in navigating these stressors, and ultimately living their best life.
“Health care is a high-stress career, and physician burnout has become a prominent issue in recent years,” said Chia-Ding Shih, DPM, MPH, chair of the APMA Podiatric Population Health Committee. “It is vital that physicians feel confident in seeking the mental health support they need.”
APMA strongly supports physicians who have the courage to seek treatment for mental health conditions or addiction. Health-care providers who choose to get help while taking all appropriate measures to ensure patient safety deserve the opportunity to seek treatment with the same dignity, privacy, and respect as other members of the community.
APMA encourages members of our community to visit www.apma.org/wellbeing to find resources that may best align with their unique needs.
