Leaders from across the country came together this past weekend for the 2023 APMA State Advocacy Forum, held August 25–26 in Albuquerque, NM. This year’s forum was co-hosted by the New Mexico Podiatric Medical Association (NMPMA). NMPMA was chosen as host in recognition of its long-standing effective collaboration with state legislators and relationships with allied medical associations.
This year’s event included more than 60 participants representing 26 states. The program included several panels highlighting key strategies and successes. Topics covered included making a significant grassroots impact with a tight budget, engaging young physicians in advocacy efforts, and rising concerns about physician extenders and scope creep.
The State Advocacy Forum is a well-established source for collaboration and education on state legislative issues and strategies. Leadership from South Carolina and Alabama credit previous forums with helping them in their successful scope modernization battles.
Look for a full summary of the event in an upcoming issue of APMA News and pay close attention to communications from APMA and your state component about how you can help podiatry move forward.
