In our review of the 2023 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule Proposed Rule, APMA has become aware that CMS is proposing to change the reimbursement model for skin substitute services in the private office setting.
CMS is proposing to no longer reimburse both the application and product separately, and instead consider the product to be a supply that is incident to the application service. CMS further proposes to factor the cost of the skin substitute product into the Practice Expense of the application service's RVU.
While these developments would pose a potential problem to many podiatric physicians, APMA will comment on this proposed rule and will be working with consultants and other organizations to develop additional forms of advocacy to address these changes.
