The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released the CY 2023 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS) Proposed Rule earlier today. APMA is carefully reviewing the details of this Proposed Rule and will provide more information soon. As it does every year, APMA will submit comments on elements of the draft that are pertinent to its members. This Proposed Rule is not a final rule and finalized 2023 policies will be announced sometime later this year after CMS receives and reviews all submitted comments.
In the Proposed Rule, CMS proposes to decrease the conversion factor used to calculate Fee Schedules by 4.42 percent. If this proposal were to be finalized, it is estimated it would result in an average 2-percent decrease in total allowed charges for podiatrists. APMA, along with many other societies, anticipated this proposed reduction, and your association is already engaged in efforts to ask Congress to intervene and prevent any fee schedule reductions, as we have successfully done in years past.
