“Disaster Medicine: Sepsis” is a free online training module for health-care professionals (HCPs), announces the CDC, Sepsis Alliance, and the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), as part of HHS’ Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR).

Sepsis, or the infection causing sepsis, starts outside of the hospital in nearly 87 percent of cases. Without timely treatment, sepsis can rapidly lead to tissue damage, organ failure, and death. This training module provides HCPs with guidance on how to save lives in disaster scenarios by encouraging them to be alert to the signs and symptoms of sepsis and to identify and treat patients early. It also features CDC and other expert commentary to help emergency medical services personnel and disaster responders triage in non-traditional clinical environments.  

The “Disaster Medicine: Sepsis” training is available through the Sepsis Alliance Institute. HCP participants are eligible to receive continuing education credit upon successful completion of the training. Register and take the training today! Be sure to check with your state board to determine if this activity will fulfill your state's specific licensure requirements.
