In this section, learn more about APMA Seal-approved and accepted products, proper foot care, common foot and ankle conditions, and how your podiatrist can help keep you and your feet healthy.
APMA is the only organization lobbying for podiatrists and their patients on Capitol Hill. As the voice of podiatric medicine to your legislators and regulators, APMA is active on a variety of critical issues affecting podiatry and the entire health-care system.
The US Department of Defense (DoD) released a proposed rule on April 8 allowing podiatrists to prescribe physical therapy or occupational therapy (OT/PT) services under the TRICARE program. For the past several years, APMA has advocated to fix TRICARE regulations that prohibit podiatrists from prescribing or referring patients to OT/PT. APMA worked closely with military podiatrists and the office of Rep. Brad Wenstrup, DPM, and repeatedly communicated directly with TRICARE officials on the need to update this and other outdated regulations.
APMA was successful in 2014 in updating TRICARE rules that limited DPMs’ ability to prescribe durable medical equipment. This latest proposed rule is yet another example of APMA advocating behalf of podiatrists and their ability to provide necessary care to America’s military service members and their families.
APMA will submit formal written comments during the 60-day commenting period, and we encourage members and other stakeholders to submit comments supporting this proposed rule.
