Ira Kraus, DPM, installed as APMA President.
Ira Kraus, DPM, was installed as the president of APMA on Sunday, March 19, by APMA Past President Michael J. King, DPM. Dr. Kraus addressed the house, emphasizing that he would like to focus his presidency on building relationships. “In a relationship, I believe you can ‘make the ask,’” he said. “I assure you that I will be making the ask as often as I can to better this profession.”
Dr. Kraus applauded the Governance and Management Review as demonstrating that APMA is a strong organization. “We have had good, solid leadership and made sound financial decisions,” he said.
Dr. Kraus asked APMA members to support ongoing, critical initiatives to recruit students to the profession and members to the association. Dr. Kraus told delegates, “Membership retention is just as important as recruitment,” and encouraged attendees to visit www.apma.org/grow to learn more and get involved in building APMA’s membership.
Dr. Kraus noted APMA will continue to reinforce the values of podiatric physicians in the health-care system through development of a Qualified Clinical Data Registry.
On the legislative front, Dr. Kraus said APMA will focus on attaining legislative victories that will build momentum toward our ultimate goal: for DPMs to be defined as physicians in every aspect of the law. “I will always speak my mind until parity with our allopathic and osteopathic colleagues has been achieved.”
In closing, Dr. Kraus vowed to strengthen relationships with members and give back to the profession he loves. “Remember: Together is the key!” he said. Read the full transcript of Dr. Kraus’ speech in the March/April issue of APMA News.
