In Memory of Dr. Foster

The APMA House of Delegates took time on Saturday to honor the memory of past Delegate Oliver "Ollie" Foster, DPM, of California, who passed away last week. The Kaplan-Clarke-Foster Practice Management Seminar was renamed by APMAPAC's Board of Directors last year in honor of Dr. Foster and his steadfast support and stewardship as APMAPAC's Chairman Emeritus.

Steven Wan, DPM, of the California delegation, spoke about Dr. Foster’s passion for giving back to the profession, particularly through the APMAPAC. Dr. Foster’s mantra, Dr. Wan said, was, “Podiatrists should not have deep pockets and short arms.”

Others spoke of Dr. Foster’s lasting legacy, commenting that he touched their lives through mentoring, example, and friendship.

APMA President Phillip E. Ward, DPM, personally expressed his sympathy to the California delegation. “Ollie loved to play golf, and his legacy will be a contribution to our future. He will be missed but not forgotten.”

Former Executive Director and CEO Glenn B. Gastwirth, DPM, said Dr. Foster “played an instrumental role in helping me be who I am today.“

Dr. Foster completed his surgical training at the California Podiatry Hospital in San Francisco and was in private practice in Los Angeles for nearly 44 years. Dr. Foster was the recipient of the APMA Distinguished Service Citation in 1998, and considered the award the highlight in his career.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that colleagues and friends contribute to a scholarship in his name at The Western University School of Podiatric Medicine.
